A milestone for the digital future
Our network roll-out projects in the greater Görtschitztal area and the Gailtal/Lavamünd region, funded under the federal government’s first ‘Broadband Billion’ programme (BBA2020), have been completed.
The federal government’s broadband funding scheme was launched to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas. Particular support was given to regions where, without this assistance,
comprehensive broadband coverage would not have been possible in the foreseeable future.
Through the federal funding programme BBA2020, the greater Görtschitztal region – comprising nine municipalities: Magdalensberg, Brückl, St. Georgen am Längsee, Kappel am Krappfeld, Althofen, Eberstein, Guttaring, Hüttenberg and Klein St. Paul – was expanded in collaboration with our partner öGIG – Österreichische Glasfaser Infrastruktur Gesellschaft.
Furthermore, seven municipalities in the Gailtal/Lavamünd region are now benefiting from the new infrastructure, which was installed in collaboration with the regional energy supplier KELAG: Oberdrauburg, Irschen, Kötschach-Mauthen, Hermagor, Bad Bleiberg, Nötsch im Gailtal and Lavamünd.
“This means that, as part of the BBA 2020 project, we have provided broadband to 16 municipalities across Carinthia and, over a route length of 330 kilometres, are now reaching a total of around 6,000 users,” said BIK Managing Director Peter Schark.
